Oklahoma City Comets — Triple-A

James Tibbs III went deep twice and drove in two runs as OKC rolled past Sugar Land 8-5. Tibbs looked locked in at the plate — he went 2-for-3 with two walks, giving him a ton of quality at-bats. That’s the kind of night you want to see from him: selective, powerful, and in control of the zone. He scored twice and finished as one of the key offensive engines in a wire-to-wire win.

The bottom half of the lineup delivered too. Ryan Fitzgerald was exceptional, going 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs — he also stole a base, which speaks to how in-sync he was at the plate. Matt Gorski contributed a solo shot despite striking out three times, showing patience mixed with power struggles. Chris Newell added his own homer and an RBI to round out a solid offensive day all around.

On the mound, Charlie Barnes was excellent. He went five innings, surrendered zero runs on just two hits and two walks while punching out two. That’s efficient work — exactly what you want from a starter in a game that got loose later. Paul Gervase slammed the door in relief, striking out four in 1.1 innings to pick up his fifth save. Both arms showed why they belong in this system.

Tulsa Drillers — Double-A

Tulsa played tight defense and got just enough hitting to edge Northwest Arkansas 3-2 in a low-scoring affair. Griffin Lockwood-Powell came through with a solo homer, and that one swing ended up mattering in a one-run decision. Elijah Hainline worked the corners at short, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk — solid contact work that kept the line moving.

The pitching staff kept this one close throughout. Christian Zazueta picked up the win after working five innings, allowing two earned runs on four strikeouts and one walk. He didn’t overpower anyone, but he kept the Cowboys off-balance and in check. Kelvin Ramirez locked it down in the ninth, striking out two without walking anyone to nail down his seventh save. Both arms worked efficiently in a game that stayed under control from start to finish.
