Oklahoma City Comets (Triple-A)

Our guys in OKC picked up a tight one against El Paso, winning 2-1 with pitching that wouldn’t give an inch. Charlie Barnes was the backbone of this performance—4.2 innings, four strikeouts, just one earned run. Bobby Miller came in with the win, throwing a clean inning to close it out and improve to 2-0.

On the offensive side, Matt Gorski did the heavy lifting at first base, going 2-for-4 with both RBIs. That’s the kind of clutch hitting you need in a one-run game. Hyeseong Kim added a solid line at center field: 2-for-3 with a walk, though he was caught stealing once. In a game decided by a single run, that’s the kind of execution that matters.

Tulsa Drillers (Double-A)

Tulsa came up short against Midland, falling 13-10 in a game where the pitching couldn’t hold the line. Roque Gutierrez took the loss after 4.2 innings, allowing six earned runs on four strikeouts and three walks. That’s the kind of start that doesn’t give your offense a chance, even when they show up.

But the Drillers’ bats were there. Chris Newell was a bright spot in center field, going 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, and a steal. He scored three times and drove in a run—the kind of all-around contribution you want from a young player. Jake Gelof launched a home run at first base and drew a walk, finishing 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Josue De Paula at DH went 2-for-6 with two doubles. Taylor Young at second base added 2-for-5 with an RBI and a walk. The offensive pieces were there; the pitching just couldn’t match.

Great Lakes Loons (High-A)

Great Lakes took a loss to Lansing, 9-5, in a game where the power was there but not enough support around it. Charles Davalan led the charge at center field, launching a home run and driving in two runs on 2-for-3. Mairo Martinus at right field also went deep, hitting a home run and notching two RBIs in 2-for-4. Eduardo Quintero at DH doubled and drove in a run in 2-for-4. Two homers should be enough to win most nights. This wasn’t one of them.

Ontario Tower Buzzers (Single-A)

Ontario had the look of a team firing on all cylinders, beating Stockton 10-7 in a game that showed what the young Buzzers can do when they’re locked in. Joendry Vargas led the way at second base—3-for-5 with three RBIs, a steal, and a walk. That’s the kind of complete at-bat performance that drives wins at this level. Javier Herrera at right field added 2-for-5 with two RBIs, a walk, and a steal.

Ching-Hsien Ko at left field put on a show in an unconventional way: 0-for-1 with five walks and an RBI. That’s patience—drawing five walks in a single game speaks volumes about his eye at the plate. Abel Lorenzo in center field doubled and drove in two runs. Caleb Johnson at third base went 2-for-6 with a steal, while Conner O’Neal behind the plate doubled and drew two walks. Kellon Lindsey at short scored twice. On the mound, Jecsua Liborius earned the win with 1.2 innings of work, two strikeouts, one walk, and clean slate.
