Oklahoma City Comets (Triple-A) — Loss, 7-13 vs Albuquerque Isotopes

This one got away from our guys in OKC. A 7-13 loss is never pretty, and there’s no sugarcoating it — the pitching staff got roughed up. Ryder Ryan took the loss and the blown save, going 3.0 innings with 2 earned runs while striking out just one. That line isn’t awful in isolation, but the bullpen as a whole couldn’t keep the Isotopes off the board, and this game spiraled.

The bats actually showed up, which makes the final score sting a little more. Noah Miller was the standout with a perfect 3-for-3 night that included an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Miller continues to be a quietly productive presence at shortstop, and the on-base ability is real. Hyeseong Kim had a nice game too — 2-for-5 with a homer, a double, and two runs scored. That’s the kind of extra-base pop we want to see from Kim as he continues to acclimate to Triple-A pitching.

Zach Ehrhard matched Kim’s multi-hit effort, going 3-for-5 with a homer and a double while adding two stolen bases. The power-speed combination from Ehrhard has been showing up more frequently, and that’s worth tracking. Alex Freeland chipped in a solo homer and two RBI, and Ryan Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk from the pitcher spot. James Tibbs III went hitless in three at-bats but drew two walks — the discipline is there, even when the results aren’t. Sometimes that’s the more important sign at this level.

Tulsa Drillers (Double-A) — Win, 8-7 vs Arkansas Travelers

Tulsa pulled out a tight one, 8-7, and it took contributions from just about everybody. The story here is the offense doing enough to overcome a shaky start from Payton Martin, who gave up 3 earned runs across 4.1 innings with just one strikeout and two walks. Martin is still working through some things — the command wasn’t sharp, and he didn’t miss many bats. That said, he kept the Drillers in the game, and sometimes that’s the job.

Lucas Wepf picked up the win in relief, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings with a strikeout. Wepf has been solid — he’s now 3-1 on the season, and the Drillers lean on him in leverage situations for good reason.

Three different Drillers went deep, and that’s how you survive a game where the pitching gives up 7 runs. Taylor Young went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI. Elijah Hainline matched that output — 3-for-5, a homer, two RBI. And Joe Vetrano got in on it with a 2-for-4 day that included a homer and two RBI of his own, though the two strikeouts show there’s still some swing-and-miss in the bat. Jake Gelof was quietly efficient, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Gelof doesn’t always make the highlight reel, but that kind of at-bat quality plays.

Great Lakes Loons (High-A) — Win, 6-3 vs South Bend Cubs

Two words: Nico Perez. The second baseman did it all tonight — 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI, and two runs scored. That’s a performance that carries an entire lineup, and that’s exactly what happened. Perez drove in four of the team’s six runs. When a guy is that locked in at the plate, you just get out of the way and let him work. Keep an eye on this one.

Matt Lanzendorfer was excellent in relief, earning the win to move to 4-0 on the season. He went 2.2 innings, struck out four, walked nobody, and didn’t allow a run. That’s the kind of clean, aggressive relief pitching that moves guys up the ladder.

Eduardo Quintero had a productive night as well — 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. He didn’t get on the stat sheet with RBI, but reaching base and creating havoc on the basepaths is its own kind of contribution. Charles Davalan went 2-for-4 with a double out of center field, and Mairo Martinus chipped in two hits and an RBI, though the caught stealing takes a little shine off the night. Jose Meza and Victor Rodrigues both went hitless but combined for four walks between them — getting on base matters, even when you aren’t squaring anything up.

Ontario Tower Buzzers (Single-A) — Loss, 1-5 vs Rancho Cucamonga Quakes

A rough night for the Buzzers offense, which managed just one run on limited production. Joendry Vargas provided the only real spark, going 1-for-4 with a triple and a stolen base. A triple and a steal shows the athleticism, but the lineup around him couldn’t capitalize. Oswaldo Osorio went 1-for-2 with two walks and did his part to get on base, but there just wasn’t enough behind him. These games happen in Single-A — the key is whether the young guys are learning something in the process.

DSL Dodgers (Rookie) — Loss, 1-8 vs DSL Astros Orange

Not much to write home about in this one. The DSL squad got blown out 1-8 by the Astros Orange affiliate, and the offense was largely silent. Fran-Jean Haseth drew a walk, scored the team’s lone run, and swiped a bag — that was about it for positives. Jeibert Rondon also drew a walk and stole a base, but went 0-for-2 at the plate. At the DSL level, we’re looking for process over results, and working walks is a good sign. Still, it’s a game the staff will want to flush quickly.

DSL Dodgers (Rookie) — Tie, 10-10 vs DSL Red Sox Blue

A 10-10 tie is a weird result, but at the DSL level, games can end in ties due to time or inning limits. The offense showed up in a big way in this one, even if they couldn’t close it out. Hendry Arvelo was spectacular — 1-for-1 with three walks, three runs scored, three stolen bases, and an RBI. That’s an absurd stat line. How do you reach base four times in four plate appearances and steal three bags? You do it by being an absolute menace on the basepaths, that’s how.

Luis Tovar had a strong night at the hot corner, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Tovar’s bat control stood out. Brayan Holguin contributed an RBI, a walk, two runs, and a stolen base despite going just 1-for-2. Luis Luna drove in two runs and swiped a bag from shortstop, while Roberto Saucedo drew two walks and stole a base behind the plate. Rafy Peguero reached base twice (walk and HBP) and added a stolen base. The team combined for plenty of stolen bases in this game — the aggressiveness on the bases is clearly a developmental priority, and we’re seeing it play out.

DSL Dodgers (Rookie) — Loss, 0-0 vs DSL Red Sox Blue

This game was recorded as a 0-0 loss — likely the second game of a doubleheader that ended early or was suspended. No notable offensive or pitching highlights to report from this one. We’ll move on.
