Oklahoma City Comets (Triple-A)

Our guys in OKC got handled by El Paso tonight, dropping an 11-5 decision that felt out of reach early. The bats had some bright spots — Ryan Fitzgerald went deep for two RBIs, and Chris Newell also got into one for a run batted in — but it wasn’t nearly enough to overcome a slugfest we didn’t win. Ryan Ward chipped in a double and two RBIs from first base, which was solid production, but we couldn’t string anything together when it mattered.

James Tibbs III drew two walks from the DH slot and scored a run, showing some patience at the plate. Ben Rortvedt went 1-for-3 with a steal behind the plate, and Zach Ehrhard swiped a bag too, giving us some speed. But with the pitching staff getting roughed up and our offense unable to mount a serious rally, this one got away from us. Not the September finish we’re looking for up in OKC.
