ACL Dodgers (Arizona Complex League) — W, 4-1 vs ACL White Sox
Let’s start where we should: Luis Gamez was absolutely electric tonight. Eleven strikeouts over 4.1 innings with zero walks and zero earned runs. That’s not a typo. Eleven punchouts in 4.1 frames, and he didn’t issue a single free pass. For a rookie-ball arm, that kind of command-plus-stuff combination is exactly what you want to see. The strikeout rate is obviously eye-popping, but the zero walks might matter more long-term. We’ll keep tracking him closely. Keep an eye on this one.
At the plate, Sam Mongelli did the heavy lifting with a three-RBI night, including a homer. He went 1-for-4 with a strikeout mixed in, so it wasn’t a perfect day at the plate, but the damage was real — three of our four runs came off his bat. That’s the kind of situational production that stands out even at this level.
Elias Medina chipped in the other run with a solo shot of his own, going 1-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout. Two homers, solid pitching, clean win. Not much more you can ask for from a Monday in the ACL.
Daniel Mielcarek went 1-for-3 with a stolen base. The hit-and-run ability is there — we just need to see more of a sample to know what the bat really is.
DSL Dodgers (Dominican Summer League) — W, 13-11 vs DSL Astros Blue
This one was a track meet. Thirteen runs on a day where our guys showed tremendous plate discipline — and they needed every bit of it, because 11 runs allowed means the pitching staff was getting hit around too. Let’s focus on what went right first.
The walks tell the story here. Ezequiel Melburne drew three walks in a game where he went 0-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Ariel Reynoso also drew three walks (0-for-2, an RBI, a run). Adrian Del Cid walked twice and scored twice despite going hitless. These guys were grinding at-bats and getting on base — and in the DSL, where young pitchers are still figuring out the strike zone, that kind of approach is a real developmental marker. Are they identifying balls out of the zone, or are pitchers just missing? Probably some of both, but the willingness to take a walk at this age matters.
Rubel Arias reached base four times (1-for-2, two walks, a hit-by-pitch) and scored twice. Fran-Jean Haseth doubled and drove in two while drawing two walks of his own. Haram Hernandez went 1-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Oliver Chapman doubled and knocked in two. Willy Bergolla tripled and drove in two as well. Up and down the lineup, guys were contributing.
On the mound, Kenry Alvear picked up the win with two scoreless innings (two strikeouts, two walks), and Allen Ajoti nailed down the save with a scoreless ninth. In a game this sloppy, someone has to slam the door — Ajoti did that.
DSL Dodgers (Dominican Summer League) — W, 9-0 vs DSL Royals Fortuna
If the first DSL game was chaos, this was the opposite. A 9-0 shutout win where our pitching staff controlled the game from the jump.
Gregg Ferrera set the tone with four scoreless innings, racking up six strikeouts against two walks. That’s a strong K rate for a DSL starter, and keeping runs off the board through four gave the offense room to work. Micheal Morfe picked up the win (2-0 on the season) with two scoreless innings of his own, though the three walks are worth noting. He got the job done without allowing a run, but the command needs tightening. Still — two innings, zero earned runs, and a W. Can’t argue with the result.
Offensively, Juan Macero led the way going 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored. That’s a complete line — hitting for extra bases, driving in runs, running. Jose Rivas also went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. Good to see the catcher swinging it well. Erny Orellana went 0-for-4 but managed to score twice, which tells you the guys behind him were moving him over and knocking him in. That’s team baseball.
A doubleheader sweep for the DSL squad. Three wins across the system today. That’s a good day.
God Bless and Go Dodgers
