UPDATE: Edwin Uceta was called up on April 29th.
J.P. Hoorstra is reporting that right-handed pitcher Edwin Uceta is on the taxi squad to Milwaukee. Along with Uceta, Keibert Ruiz, Mitchell White, and Alex Vesia. J.P. did not mention the fifth member of the taxi squad but I’m guessing it is DJ Peters. This is the first time that Uceta has been named to the taxi squad.
I first met Uceta in 2018 when he was with the Quakes in Rancho Cucamonga. I was able to witness him dominate a game after taking over for a rehabbing Dennis Santana. He started the 2019 season back with the Quakes and continued to dominate. Fortunately, I was able to get an interview with him before he was promoted to Double-A in Tulsa.
With a bullpen game on Friday for the Dodgers, could Edwin Uceta get the call to pitch in that game? The Dodgers’ bullpen has been over worked lately. I have to admit, this is personal. Edwin is a great guy who has always treated me well.
I could envision him getting the start in the bullpen game on Friday and going two to three innings. They would not push him as he’s been mostly just doing work at the alternative site. This would probably just be a short stint in the Major Leagues (if it happens) as the Dodgers will want to have him stretched out as a starter in Triple-A once the minor leagues start next week.
Whatever happens, we wish the best for Edwin Uceta.
