Dodgers Prospects: Speedster Draft Pick Signs

Dodgers Sign Third Rounder

The Dodgers signed their 3rd round pick of the 2020 draft, outfielder Jake Vogel. This was a tough signing as the Dodgers had to go over $1 million above the signing slot. Vogel graduated from Huntington Beach High School and was committed to play baseball at UCLA. Instead, the Dodgers were able to change his mind.

The top tool that Vogel brings to the table is 70-80 grade speed which plays well into all parts of his game.

Most believe he’s going to hit at the next level, with a really simple swing from the right side of the plate that allows him to barrel up the baseball on a consistent basis. – MLB Pipeline

He also keeps the strikeouts down and has a strong arm. The only area that he’s possibly lacking is power but that could blossom.

There was some chatter going around that Vogel would be a tough one to sign. I am ecstatic that the Dodgers were able to sign him. Bringing in some top-level speed with great upside is something that I’m glad the Dodgers were able to pull off. This could be that draft choice that we look back on in five years and talk about how much of a steal it was.

You can follow Jake Vogel on social media via Twitter (@jakevogs_) and Instagram (@jakevogs). Now the Dodgers have a little less than $1.2M to sign their last unsigned draft choice, Clayton Beeter. Let’s hope they can finish this draft off on a high note.
