The Rule 5 draft was conducted today at 9:00 AM. See our article from yesterday for details about the Rule 5 draft and how it works. Baseball America had an amazing list of players who could be impacted today so it is always fun to see how things really worked out. J.J. Cooper of Baseball America has been phenomenal in his coverage of all things related to Minor League Baseball so go and follow him on Twitter.
Rangers Select Brett de Geus
I was afraid of losing Brett de Geus. Had really made his way up the prospect lists. We wrote about him a few months ago and he was one I thought the Dodgers would put on the 40-man roster.
Rockies Select Jordan Sheffield
I got to see Jordan Sheffield quite a bit with the Quakes. The reports on some of his control issues are true but he also has some nasty stuff that could make him a very good reliever. Sheffield was a first round pick in the 2016 draft out of Vanderbilt.
Minor League Phase
The Dodgers had four prospects taken in the first round of the minor league portion of the Rule 5 Draft:

LHP Tyler Gilbert (D-Backs)
SS Errol Robinson (Reds)

The Dodgers just lost prospects on nearly back-to-back picks
SS Drew Jackson and 2B Marcus Chiu were both selected

Dodgers Don’t Select Anybody for Major League Roster
No surprise as the Dodgers have a ton of young talent. They still have three spots open on the 40-man roster so those will be filled with free agents (lots of their own) and trades.
Final Thoughts
All the best to our guys who now get a shot to make Major League money and get a jump start on their career. If the other teams don’t keep them the whole year on the Major League roster (with 90 days not on the Injured List) they can be offered back to the Dodgers.
