One of the top prospects in all of baseball, Miguel Vargas, is starting to put his name into consideration for a post-season roster spot.
Juan Toribio asked Dave Roberts if Vargas has put his name in the mix for the post-season.
His name is certainly in the mix to make the roster, absolutely. – Dave Roberts 9/29/22
Vargas has not had many opportunities at the major league level (just 41 ABs) but he has started to look better. In his last two starts, five of his last six balls hit fair were over 95 MPH. It’s a super small sample size but he is starting to feel confident.
Let’s hope he gets at least three starts over the last six games of the regular season. I have a good feeling he will continue to make the decision on a post-season roster spot, a difficult one.
Before the season started we published an article that talks about the rise of Miguel Vargas. From the first time I saw Vargas play with the Quakes, the hit tool was quite evident, even at the age of 19. He is still only 22 years old right now.
The Future
There is no doubt that Miguel Vargas will be a factor for the Dodgers in 2023. Gavin Lux has blossomed in 2022 and Vargas looks to be next in line to crack the lineup. Following up after Vargas would be Michael Busch, then Andy Pages with Diego Cartaya being one of the crown jewels. From a position player standpoint, the Dodgers are loaded with excellent players that could all break into the lineup over the next five years. Be very excited!
