ACL Dodgers (Arizona Complex League)

A quiet day across the system, but our ACL squad gave us something to talk about with a 9-8 win over the ACL Rangers. This was a slugfest — 17 combined runs — and the kind of back-and-forth game that tests young players in pressure spots. Good to see our guys come out on top.

Daniel Mielcarek was the offensive headliner, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. The DH did his damage early and often, and the homer is the kind of loud contact we want to see from him at this level. He struck out once, but the overall at-bat quality was there. When a guy squares up a ball and drives it out in a high-scoring game, that’s how you separate yourself from the pack. Keep an eye on this one.

Javier Herrera had a really polished day at the plate from the second base spot — 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. What stood out to me was the walk. At the complex level, plate discipline is the separator. Guys who can take what they’re given and work counts tend to be the ones who keep climbing. Herrera showed he can do damage (the double) and also control the zone (the free pass). That’s a good combination.

Kellon Lindsey drove in two runs from the shortstop position, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. The two strikeouts are worth noting — it’s a reminder that even on productive days, there’s always something to clean up. But he put the bat on the ball when it mattered, and two RBIs in a one-run win carry real weight.

On the mound, Jose Cabrera earned the win (1-0) with two innings of scoreless relief. Four strikeouts in two frames is dominant at any level. He walked one, but the zero earned runs and the swing-and-miss stuff tell the story. In a game where runs were flying around all day, Cabrera came in and shut the door. That’s exactly what you want from a reliever asked to hold a tight game together.
